Mental Health

Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. One in four people in the UK has a mental health problem at some point in their lives, which affects their daily life, relationships or physical health.

Mental health disorders take many different forms and affect people in different ways.

We would encourage anybody who has or who thinks they may have a mental health problem to book an appointment with a GP to discuss it.

We have strong links with Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust which provide mental health services, to the residents of Cumbria including their “First Step” counselling service.

First Step provided help to patients experiencing common mental health problems, it provides assessment and brief talking therapies, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), counselling, self-help books and computerised therapy.

It also refers to other services if more appropriate for patients.

You can access “First Step” directly without seeing a GP by calling 0300 123 9122, or you can see your GP who can arrange an assessment by “First Step”.
